Hello Frosh! How wonderful it is to see you out and about and eager!
As many people have probably mentioned, this Friday is this VUSAC Clubs’ Fair (finally)! It’s in Old Vic, from 11-2pm! Meanwhile, there will be a carnival going on outside where you can expect all sorts of free food and fun games. I feel like I’ve had this event on my mind for years even though its only been in the works for about 6-8 weeks. I just can’t believe how fast the summer went by, but I’m uber-excited to be starting my year as your clubs commissioner.
I’m excited to meet you guys and help you get involved in any way that I can! I’ve been working on several resources throughout the summer that should help you find the perfect club/niche in our community (these could include not only clubs, but levies, committees, residence life, the VUSAC and governing bodies in general). One of those initiatives is our updated clubs board in the Birge Carnegie building: it has a short blurb about every clubs plus the contact information needed so you can easily email a club head for more information. You’ve also received a clubs pamphlet in your frosh kit with similar information, directing you presumably to this website. Great! But really, the best way to get an idea of which club is the right fit for you, plan on attending the fair this Friday, for a one on one with any of our clubs heads (who you will find are truly wonderful, and friendly people, just waiting to help you get involved like them, share their experiences and give you all sorts of guidance about life at Vic).
I’m sure you’ve heard this mantra throughout frosh week, but, sincerely, your experience in university will be much more vibrant and rich if you are involved, and that hapiness seeps into your home life and academic life, and it’s really just a triangle of very important aspects– a balance if you will.
Another important aspect of this fair is that it’s your first chance to meet me! I’m like a walking resource book and can help you with anything you may need related to clubs (and sometimes other things too). So come and say hi to me, I’ll be roaming around between the tables and the VUSAC booth, handing out floor plans (which clubs are where) and explaining not only how to get involved in existing clubs but how you can start your very own club (this information can also be found on this website!) Vic welcomes clubs of every nature, and we are always looking for new and interesting initiatives to liven our community.
Anyways, now I must say goodnight. I hope to meet you Friday!
Sarah
